Never Use Alone is the US National Overdose Response line that people can call when they’re using by themselves, with no one to call for help. One of our volunteer operators will take your location information, and alert EMS to that location if you stop responding after using.
All operators are people with lived experience. No one will ever judge, shame, or lecture you about quitting. If you ask for help, we will go to the end of the earth to get you whatever type of help you feel that you need.
All calls are confidential. No one will ever know you called, and we never share your information with anyone other than EMS if we need to alert them.
Call us at 800-484-3731 or 877-696-1996, 24/7 – 365 days a year. You’ll be asked for your exact location and the number you’re calling from. After the operator has confirmed the address with you, you’re free to use your substance. We ask that you let the operator know when you’re done, and from there, we just hang out and talk for a few minutes to make sure you’re ok. If you stop responding for more than 30 seconds, we alert EMS to an “Unresponsive Person” at the location you’ve given the operator.
All calls are confidential. No one will ever know you that you called unless we have to alert EMS to your location.
NUA is a peer led harm reduction program built for drug users, by drug users. All NUA staff are volunteers, with lived experience. Some of our operators are mothers who have lost children to overdose. Most operators though, are people with first-hand lived experience.
Our line is a judgment-free zone. You will never be judged by us, for using drugs. In fact, because abstinence isn’t a requirement for volunteering with us, some of our operators identify as current drug users.

After submitting, one of our onboarding team members will contact you for an interview. If accepted, you’ll be required to take a short training class to ensure that you know how to get help for a caller, anywhere in the country.
